By 'tuning the gate voltage properly and letting only one electron go through the device at a time' may also help us produce medical devices in line with SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography).
Since 'entropy' always rises, we have to 'pump' energy from outside to make phonons work like a diode or a transistor. Obviously, conventional transistors also had a 'quiescent current'.
On the whole, a very wholesome discovery indeed.
