The basic idea of an active table has been around for sometime. for me the technology components are not quite ready for this type of application. In any case the acceptance of this table-based application is really only a matter of price. What interests me are the underlying technologies for gesture recognition, image manipulation, etc. which in one form or another will become mainstream in the coming 3-5 years. The idea of a table is just a way to say that the technologies will be built in to everyday items such as walls, floors, furniture, etc. The table is just one way to demonstrate the integration of the technologies, but what will really surprise us is when we can not even see a screen, keyboard, projector, or microphone.
