David M. Clemen:

Gentlemen

The most efficient means of energy storage for the wind generation is a pumped storage scheme utilizing water. The wind towers are already located at a higher elevation, and the ocean can be the lower reservoir.
The overall round trip efficiency for pumped storage is a minimum of 72% (85% pumping/85% generating), which is significantly better than any battery system. Altho the initial cost is higher than a battery system, the lifetime is 75 - 100 years on the civil structures; and 15 -40 years on the mechanical/electrical systems dependent upon the specific system. This far exceeds battery storage systems.
